Manorside Academy

Anti Bullying Approach

All pupils have the right to be safe from bullying, harm and abuse. At our academy we will ensure that the victims of bullying are supported and looked after.

Our academy aims to provide a safe, supportive and positive learning environment for our community, in which everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect.

Bullying of any kind is unacceptable. If bullying does occur all pupils and adults should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly, fairly and effectively. We are "a telling academy" This means all members of staff are required to listen and respond when bullying or concerns about safety and well-being are raised.

If your child is being bullied:

  • Listen to them.
  • Tell your child that bullying exists and it's not their fault. Please remember that bullying is defined as deliberate hurtful behaviour which is unprovoked and repeated over a period of  time.
  • Check all the facts. Is it bullying? Is it a friendship problem, which may resolve naturally?
  • Talk about strategies which your child may use. Try the guidance in the website listed below.
  • Tell the class teacher.

Our Anti-Bullying policy is available in the documents section of this website.

Anti Bullying Ambassadors

At Manorside Academy we do not tolerate bullying. To try and support any pupil who feels they may be being bullied, there are Anti-bullying Ambassadors (from Years 4-6). The aim of the Anti-bullying Ambassador programme is to build up a team of children who are trained to have an awareness of bullying issues and bullying behaviours and can help their peers to overcome possible problems. Ms Cooper is the Anti-bullying Champion and works with our Anti-bullying Ambassadors to promote their work across the whole school.

We are engaging young people, parents and teachers to change the attitudes, behaviour and culture of bullying by building skills and confidence to address different situations, both online and offline.

Please see below a letter that was sent to parents to inform them about our approach to dealing with bullying:

Anti-Bullying Well-being Badge

We are delighted to announce that Manorside Academy has received the Well-being Badge/Award from The Diana Award. The Diana Award is a charity which trains our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors across the UK. They have praised our Ambassadors on their work to promote Anti-Bullying across our community as well as providing support for pupils experiencing bullying. Activities included hosting Anti-Bullying Week, putting different things in place across the school to support well-being and providing assemblies on all up-to-date information regarding what to do if bullying is seen or experienced by the pupils at Elm.

Resilience Reps

A number of pupils from Year 5 and 6 have attended Resilience Rep training hosted at Manorside Academy. This programme is designed to build on the Diana Award training to look at how our Resilience Reps can support other pupils to positively manage their mental wellbeing and health.

Our Resilience Reps work closely with our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors to apply their training to lead assemblies and support pupils across the school.

With resilience being one of our school values, these pupils take an incredibly active role in promoting this in all aspects of school life.
